Take Care – Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Coconut oil has so many health benefits both in the food you eat, and, for this post specifically, for your hair! It promotes hair growth, moisturizes dry hair, and many other things.

I did a coconut hair mask twice over the last month, so I could write to you guys about my experience with it. As a hairstylist, I’ve done so many bad things to my hair. From changing the colour a million times, to heat styling it over and over.

The first time I did it, I wet my hair down first and put the coconut oil on it. It did make my hair feel really soft, but I didn’t feel like it made a massive difference.

I ended up getting my hair cut later that week, because it was just looking so dead and dry I couldn’t handle it. I cut about 3 inches off and totally love this long bob I’m rocking now.

The second time, I did it on my hair dry so that it could suck up as much nutrients as possible without it being watered down. I also left it on almost 2 hours while I cleaned my apartment. This time I loved it! My hair felt so good after, even better than when I walked out of the salon earlier that week. I couldn’t stop touching it all day.

Doing the mask is super easy. Just apply melted (but not hot. If you have to microwave it to get it to a liquid state, allow it to cool before applying) coconut oil to dry or damp hair and allow to sit for a couple hours. Then wash it out well with shampoo and conditioner. You can even leave it on over night and wash it out in the morning if you’d like.

*Note – there is no proven remedy for split ends other than getting them cut off. The best way to keep your hair healthy is by getting regular cuts, using heat-protecting products when flat ironing or curling, and things like regular hair masks.
