Tigris Girl How do you choose to suffer? - Tigris Girl

How do you choose to suffer?

Today, my sister sent me an absolutely brilliant article titled, “The Most Important Question of Your Life” by Mark Manson.  It talked about how many of us have dreams we want to accomplish and goals we want to come to pass.  We envision ourselves at the finish line with our university degree, family of four (one boy, one girl), ripped abs, beautiful home, yacht and a career that allows us to travel the world.

We can see it, we can envision it, so whats stopping us from achieving it?

“If you find yourself wanting something month after month, year after year, yet nothing happens and you never come any closer to it, then maybe what you actually want is a fantasy, an idealization, an image and a false promise. Maybe what you want isn’t what you want, you just enjoy wanting. Maybe you don’t actually want it at all.”

The next thing he said in the article was, “How do you choose to suffer”.  WHAT A QUESTION? Boom!  Drop the mic.  How do I choose to suffer? How do I Choose to Suffer? How do I choose to suffer?

Honestly, I don’t think I choose it enough.  With what I want to accomplish in my life, I don’t know if I choose to suffer enough.  And maybe, the word ‘suffer’ is too strong of a word for my context of living, but the choices I have to make can be hard to achieve the lifestyle I want to live.  Here are two things I choose to suffer for.

First, I suffer for my beliefs.  I am a straight up Christian, I love Jesus Christ and believe he is the hope for humanity.  I know there are many Christians that suffer much more for their beliefs, however, their are times when I have to deny myself and my personal desires to uphold my convictions.

I feel a large part of my purpose in life is tied to impacting and influencing women and girls, this would be the second thing I suffer for.  I work hard with the Shinegirl program to see it move into communities within my country and when I want to take a break I do choose to keep going.

How do we achieve our dreams?  We achieve them by building them, building the foundation, starting small to achieve something great.  If you know me you’ll know one of my favourite quotes is by my home boy Drake, “started from the bottom now we’re here”.  Thats where you have to start.  But we also have to  deny ourselves of the things we desire in order to achieve the the things we dream.

Suffering is all relative, it’s different to peoples different situations but “if you want the benefits of something in life, you have to also want the costs.”
